Turns out that the latest firmware for my Sansa Fuze MP3 player enforces new EU legislation on a “safe” maximum volume.
Which is basically inaudible.
Good news though… simply “Reset Factory Settings” and change your location from “Europe” to “Rest of World” and the “Volume – High” option returns!
